Introduction

Department of Public Policy HANBAT NATIONAL UNIVERSITY

The Department of Public Policy aims to equip students with practical knowledge in the fields of law and public administration so that they can work at public offices and find employment in their respective major fields of study. In response to the opening of the legal and administrative service market in the era of globalization and the revitalization of Sejong City, we provide differentiated education to foster competent professionals for public administration.

We offer basic law and public administration courses in the bachelor’s program for students aspiring to get into the legal profession or become administrative/legislative/judicial officials or science and technology administrators at Innopolis Daedeok. We also offer courses specifically for those wishing to obtain advanced-level certifications to work as an administrator, lawyer, patent attorney, or labor attorney.

  • Foster talents with an accurate understanding the law and legal literacy by recognizing the basic principles of human freedom and rights based on human dignity and value
  • Cultivate talents who can play a pivotal role in our country and society and contribute to the improvement and enhancement of social conditions
  • Cultivate rational and creative thinkers capable of solving social issues and contribute to society with scientific knowledge
  • Nurture leaders in the field of the law and public administration with broad knowledge of the law, public administration, economics, social sciences, and other academic disciplines

Possible Career Paths

  • State and local government officials, police officers, prosecutors, court officers, firefighters, corrections officers, National Assembly Secretariat, National Election Commission, etc.
  • Earn professional licenses (attorney, patent attorney, certified public accountant, tax accountant, adjuster, appraiser, etc.)
  • Law school or top graduate programs at home and abroad
  • Public institutions and civic and public interest groups
  • Legal, administrative, and general office jobs at general corporations

Academic Pursuits and Career Paths

Academic Pursuits

Upon completing the undergraduate program, students can pursue graduate studies at a graduate school of law and public administration or enter law school. The former leads to a master’s or doctoral degree in law and public administration, and for the latter, you can consider studying in the United States or the United Kingdom, or in Germany, where tuition is free and scholarships are available.

Because Germany has a legislative system similar to that of Korea, there is a strong demand for those who have studied the German law. Law school is a system introduced to replace the judicial exam, and those who have majored in law as an undergrad are at an advantage. After graduating from law school, you can obtain a license through the bar exam and find a job as a lawyer, providing legal counseling, handling litigations and patent and tax accounting cases, or establish your own law firm. After graduating from law school, you will be granted a master’s degree, and you have a choice to enter a general graduate school to pursue a doctoral degree.

The Department of Public Policy offers various majors to train legal and administrative professionals and aims to cultivate talents with excellent foreign language skills for the field of public administration in response to the opening of the market for legal and administrative services in the era of globalization.

Possible career paths can be broadly categorized into public sector and corporate employment. That is, you can find work as a general public official, policy expert, or expert in science and technology administration in research centers or take on a legal sales position at a company.

There are also courses and programs to assist students in obtaining professional certificates related to law and public administration, as well as various training courses suitable for public service work.
